How Our Eagle Coin Bullions Prices Work
Each American Silver Eagle has a price per coin, shown on its page and in your cart before checkout. Like all bullion coins, it costs more than the silver it contains, because the price also covers minting, distribution and the dealer’s costs. Where we offer a lower price for larger quantities, the coin page lists it.

BU vs Proof vs Burnished Silver Eagles
Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Silver Eagles are the bullion version: struck in large numbers, sold close to the silver price, with no mint mark. Proof coins are struck more than once on polished blanks for mirror-like fields. Burnished coins have a satin finish and a W mint mark. All contain one troy ounce of 0.999 silver.

How to Tell if a Silver Eagle Is Real
Weigh it, measure it and test it with a magnet. A genuine American Silver Eagle weighs 31.10 grams, measures 40.6 mm across and 2.98 mm thick, and is not attracted to a magnet. Then check the design details against US Mint images, and buy only from dealers who show their real business details.

Silver Eagle Type 1 vs Type 2: What Changed
Type 1 Silver Eagles, made from 1986 to mid-2021, show a heraldic eagle behind a shield on the reverse. Type 2 coins, made since mid-2021, show an eagle coming in to land with an oak branch, designed by Emily Damstra, along with refreshed details on Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty obverse.
