How Our Eagle Coin Bullions Prices Work

Updated . Written by Eagle Coin Bullions.

Short answer

Each American Silver Eagle has a price per coin, shown on its page and in your cart before checkout. Like all bullion coins, it costs more than the silver it contains, because the price also covers minting, distribution and the dealer’s costs. Where we offer a lower price for larger quantities, the coin page lists it.

What you pay

Each coin page shows the price per coin. Where a coin has a lower price for larger quantities, the page lists each quantity and its price, and your cart applies the right price automatically as you change the quantity. The total in your cart, before shipping and sales tax, is what you pay for the coins.

Spot price and premium

The spot price is the market price of one troy ounce of pure silver, quoted in US dollars. It moves throughout the trading day. An Eagle Coin Bullions contains exactly one troy ounce (31.103 grams) of 0.999 fine silver, so its silver value is the spot price.

The difference between a coin’s price and its silver value is called the premium. For Eagle Coin Bullions it covers the US Mint’s own charge to the distributors it sells to, distribution, handling and packing, and the dealer’s margin. Every dealer sells Silver Eagles above spot for this reason. A price far below spot is a warning sign; our guide on how to tell if a Silver Eagle is real explains what to check.

What a Silver Eagle price is made of
Part What it is
Silver value Spot price per troy ounce × 1 troy oz
Premium Minting, distribution, handling and the dealer’s margin
Price per coin Silver value + premium, shown on each coin page

When our prices change

Because silver prices move, we update our coin prices from time to time. The price in your cart when you place your order is the price you pay, and it does not change after you order.

Buying more

Where a coin has quantity prices, its page shows them in a table before you add anything to your cart, and the cart tells you how many more coins reach the next price.

Payment method and sales tax

If a payment method costs more or less to process, the difference is shown as its own line at checkout, labelled with the method and the percentage, before you place your order. Sales tax, where it applies, is calculated at checkout from your shipping address; prices on coin pages do not include tax.
