Description

The 2020 American Silver Eagle belongs to the original series. It pairs Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty on the obverse with John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle and shield (Type 1) on the reverse, the design used from 1986 until mid-2021.

Each coin is struck by the United States Mint from one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, carries a $1 face value, measures 40.6 mm across and has a reeded edge. Coins are sold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, as struck for bullion: they are not third-party graded and do not come in a graded holder.

Because the Type 1 reverse was retired in 2021, 2020 is one of the last full years of the first design. Buyers who are completing a Type 1 date run often look for it for that reason.
